The Big Skinny

I have been getting some questions about my diet and I just got back from the grocery store so I thought I would share something with you. This is roughly a weeks worth of food for me. Minus some protein that I have in the freezer (fish, shrimp, etc) and a huge bag of cashews that I use for my source of fat. Bundle of asparagus, broccoli, Blueberries, blackberries, grapes, mango’s, apples, tomatoes, ground beef (less than 10% fat), turkey meat, and eggs.
Its really that simple. A lot of fruit and vegetables. Ladies if you don’t hear a thing I say hear this! GLUTEN IS MAKING US FAT! As you can see there is no pasta, bread, or rice on my counter and no cereal. I know what you are thinking right now….. “Well brown rice is ok, or whole wheat bread” OH HELL NO! It is not ok. Don’t roll your eyes at me just hear me out. I am a perfect example of a “Normal athletic person” I lived by eating 1700 calories or less to loose weight as long as I am exercising and less calories if not exercising. Just ask my old roommate Carolann (who is laughing right now), I used to drink a gallon of nonfat milk in 3 days, 1 loaf of bread in less than a week and I lived on the TJ’s brown rice. So if you think its impossible it is not because I am living proof of it. Carolann used to watch me eat a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios and 2 pieces of toast every morning. I haven’t bought a loaf of bread, a box of cereal or any rice/pasta in 3 months and if you told me then that I wouldn’t eat it again then I would have thought you were smoking something. If you take those items out of your diet I promise you will lose weight (insert some sort of disclaimer here).
So back to my calorie intake, remember I said 1700 calories with exercise, less calories without? I think on weight watchers they eat about 1200 calories. I WOULD DIE!!! With my diet I average about 2200-2300 calories a day. That may seem like a lot but its not cause I still lose 2-3 pounds a week when I eat that much!

Here is some samples of meals:

Breakfast- I eat the same thing everyday, greek yogurt, blueberries, scoop of protein powder. You can substitute the powder for eggs, cottage cheese or sausage.

Lunch/dinner-I usually eat asparagus or broccoli or tomatoes (those are the veggies I’m into now) then I have fish, plain hamburger, turkey meat, shrimp, some other protein works too, and some fruit and 12 cashews.

snacks (2 a day) I eat fruit, 3 cashews, and 2 egg whites or a couple pieces of turkey meat, or sometimes I warm up a handful of edamame beans for my protein.

All my portions are based on 4 block zone diet so I weigh all my food and used the portions they say to use (you will have to look that up or let me know I will give you reference mat.)

If you get anything out of this post just understand the only thing I bought tonight that wasn’t on the outside isles of the grocery store was the coffee filters I bought and trash bags. Except for tuna fish or frozen veggies/fruit I don’t buy any food in the middle of the store. You can put that 30 pounds I lost in a box and set it back on the shelf in the cereal isle cause that’s where I originally got it!

    You are right, I am laughing!!! And it's true… just looking at the picture of the food you just bought…well, I never thought that would be in your grocery bag–on purpose! Ha! Nice work. You rock!
