Pedal to Solana Beach

29 Sep

Tammy’s virgin ride to Solana Beach!!! Most people would drive the 65 miles to Solana Beach from Irvine but not Tammy and I. Oh no, we would much rather ride our bicycles 5 hours there so we can justify all the Pizza and Beer we had at Pizza Port. And in my case I also justified not doing ANYTHING on Sunday because of the ride!! ha ha

So yes Tammy is just getting into the road biking thing and one of the special things us OC roadies do is ride down to Solana and ride the train back. Its a great ride along the coast and very rewarding when you get there. At the end we eat at Pizza Port and jump on the train only to wiz by what took us 5 hours to pedal.
We started at about 8:30am from Irvine train station and headed through Irvine down to Aliso Creek and on to PCH. We followed PCH down to San Juan Capistrano. From there you can jump on the bike path that follows the 5 freeway all the way to Camp Pendelton. You can get on the base with US ID and ride through to Oceanside where you pick up PCH again and travel down to Solana. The whole day was perfect overcast weather which is nice for riding. We didn’t want the sun to wear us out. Our plan was to take it easy and make it a fun social ride. There was no hut hut involved. (Hut hut is a term we use for fast try to keep up rides) When we got into Oceanside I was feeling the miles a bit but I was definitly fine to go the distance and so was Tammy. When we got to Solana we both felt great but were happy to be there. The pizza and beer was great!!
Good job Tammy!!!

Hey great job guys! I would post ‘congrats’ on Tammy’s blog too, except for the little fact that she doesn’t have one! Sounds like you had a fun time and you definitely deserved to enjoy all that Pizza Port has to offer. 🙂

Whatever with the “Tammy doesn’t have a blog” comment! Nice write up! Thanks for helping me to have such a fabulous day!
