Training Programs
The Periodization Bible – By Dave Tate
This is one of my favorites. Dave Tate takes periodization and Westside Barbell method and breaks it down into a general manual. I have read this many times and often refer to it as reference material. Dave Tate is founder of Elite Fitness, I read all of his articles and look at his training log regularly.
5/3/1 – By Jim Windler
Jim’s program has been tested over time and has always been successful. This program has been used by many to get strong. His book is an easy read and great for beginning lifters. His program can help you build a great foundation of strength and also works well for those rehabbing after an injury. Some more experienced lifters might find the programming easy and less challenging but sometimes less is more.
Starting Strength – By Mark Rippetoe
This is a very basic level book. Mark talks about everything as though you have never touched a bar. He does a very good job of going over how the lifts should be performed and how to set up a basic progressive training program.
Power to the People Professional – By Pavel Tsatsouline
The Russian Squat program was designed by Sergey Smolov, and there is all kinds of info on the internet about it. Pavel has put all of the info in his books that are a little more structured for the lifters. It’s a progressive strength program that I have had good results from as well as several of my friends. I highly recommend reading up and trying this program.
In addition to these programs there are also several resources for training programs and improving your technique in all the lifts. Each of these sites I visit regularly if not daily.
